Oval, Ribbed, Split and Corrugated plastic tubes

In addition to Round Plastic Tubes and Rectangular Plastic Tubing Tubeway can manufacture more unusual or specialised designs of plastic tubes. These are available in different sizes, materials and colours, and subject to the normal minimum order quantities - new tooling can be made if required.

Oval plastic tubes are used as conduit, handles, for stiffening fabric and as rails. This is in addition to normal fluid, powder and gas containment common to other hollow plastic tubes. The oval tubes we can manufacture are generally flat-sided rather than being elliptical, which makes them suitable for attaching to flat surfaces with adhesive. They are more tactile than rectangular tubes, making them better suited as rails, and because of the flat sides they will not roll in the same way as round tubes.

Ribbed (or fluted) plastic tubes have external serrations which provide grip for applications such as conveyor belts, towel rails, grab or handrails. Because of the individual nature of these tubes, Tubeway will provide a drawing with the quotation. For some of the ribbed plastic tubes it is possible to select the required wall thickness.

Split plastic tubes can be used as snap-over covers to provide grip or protection. Some of the tooling for these tubes is made specifically for them, and is not, strictly speaking, tubular, although the usage can be. In addition however, it is sometimes possible to manufacture a round tube onto a blade, which splits it before forming - this relies on there being a thin wall (up to 1.5mm in some cases) but it greatly increases the available tooling to include round tube Dies. See our Round Plastic Tube page for more details of these. Where this method of production is used it may result in the split tube "furling" i.e. curling over itself.

Corrugated tubes are used as conduit and ducting, to protect cables, pipes and move liquids under gravity. The single wall corrugations make them easy to flex, hence they are sometimes known as Flexible Duct, even though they are made from rigid material. They can be buried, used in voids and cavities, with water butts, in fishponds and many other applications.

They are manufactured in loose coils, a wide range of colours and two materials:

  • HDPE for all indoor and outdoor, able to withstand around 750N of pressure underground
  • PP is recommended for use out of direct sunlight but otherwise for general use, providing approx 250N of compressive strength whether buried or used under floor or water
